New to dogs

I am a cat person and have been all my life, but I am also an animal lover. I have always wanted a Brussels Griffon, so I was hoping to educate myself and make some friends along my quest. *waves*

My name is Mandie, and I guess I am new. Hi!

Welcome! I'm so glad to see you're looking to educate yourself on the breed (and dogs in general) before you get one!

LoL, thank you guys. I promise I will post plenty of pictures! Do you guys have any reccommendations on what websites I should check out to get basic information on Griffons? I'm not even sure how to just do simple training. I have a long ways to go!

Thats ok we all had to start somewhere!

Welcome to the forum, you will learn a lot here, I sure did!

Have you checked out the training threads to get some ideas of what you want to train as well as any specifics you need answered? The best thing to do would be to jot down some basic questions (clicker training questions, how to approach training, etc) and ask them in the training thread (they will be read way more there ).

Also I recommend you consider finding a highly qualified dog trainer in your area so you can look into puppy classes when you get your dog

i would start by looking for a rescue organization... they aren't a super common breed... oh and maybe a breed club....

as far as training, i would recommend getting some books and reading up on the process...

here is a list of book recommendations that we have on this site...

i'd say get a couple, "the power of positive dog training" is a great intro into clicker training... imo... and then something that focuses a bit more on behavior... i like patricia mcconnel's "the other end of the leash" oh, and you may also like "calming signals, on talking terms with dogs" it gives some great info on dog body language....

oh! one more thing, there are great trainers on youtube, i highly recommend kickopup's channel...
