Jack and I

Been browsing around this forum a bit, so I might as well make a semi-formal intro.

I'm a 30 year old guy and I've always wanted a dog, but never had one. About 3-4 years ago I started researching breeds and I decidedon a Lab. I lead an active lifestyle: I camp, MTB, backpack and overall spend just about all non-working weekend time outdoors. I knew a Lab would be a great outdoor partner. I also wanted to begin hunting.

Fast forward to 2011. I moved from Chicago to Texas in November of that year. By February 2012 I rescued Jack, who's a black Lab. He was about 15 months old at the time.

Him being my first do, I did a lot of research and I knew exactly the level of commitment I would have to present, and I was looking forward to that. The training was rocky, partly to me being a noob and partly to him being so young. But, I stuck to a consistent training schedule and 'rules', and over time things turned out well.

Today, Jack is my constant companion just about anywhere I go, except work. It doesn't matter if it's a trip to the store (he'll stay in the car if temps aren't too hot, etc) to trips across the country. We backpack, hike, camp, MTB and recently I've begun to hunt.

He's very level-headed and calm. While he's home during the day, he stays absolutely quiet according to my neighbors. He's easy-going with most dogs and ALL people. He obeys well and always follows me around everywhere I go around the house. There's not been a time when he slept in another room where I wasn't. It appears that if he's in deep sleep and I move elsewhere in the house, he will wake up, come find me and pass out near me again. That said, he doesn't display any signs of distress when he's alone all day.

We spend a lot of time together hanging out, playing and going on adventures.

Hi & welcome! Jack is stunning! great picture of him. He sounds like a perfect companion for you & your lifestyle. I know what you mean about the sleeping thing, Betsy can be snoring her head off, but if I move she'll be right there beside me, but is also fine when I go out. I think that means they are happy, confident dogs :thumbsup
Oh, & well done for getting a rescue dog, great decision!
