Introducing Tink

I have been lurking here for months and finally decided to introduce myself.

I promised myself I would get a puppy when I retired. I retired last April and got Tink in August. She is 9 months old now and weighs about 15 pounds. Probably a chihuahua cross, with maybe some papillon, maybe some terrier...

I worked as a zookeeper for 25 years and have had lots of animals over the years, but Tink is different from any I have ever had. Main difference is that she is very timid. She is improving bit by bit, but a future as a therapy dog is probably out of reach (yes, that was my plan...)

Lots of great info on this forum.

Kathy

Hello and Welcome! Tink is very pretty! I love her coat colour.

May I ask what kind of animals you've worked with? Any big cats?

Thanks - I think Tink is pretty cute too

I have worked with big cats. For 19 years I was a "swing keeper" which let me work with anything in the mammal department - Cats, bears, primates, elephants, hoofstock, small mammals... Later I worked closely with sea lions and polar bears. The last couple of years I worked with pandas. It was an amazing job.

It would be. I love the zoo and all the animals...the lions and tigers are my favorite. Think I'd probably spend all my time there watching them...and then probably get fired for not doing my job. HA HA.

Ahhh you're so lucky! Sounds like a great job! I recently found out the zoo around here is supposed to be getting 2 pandas with the hopes they'll breed. My friend and I are going to check em out when they get arrive

Welcome to DF! Love your avatar picture. We love pictures here so feel free to post more... *hint hint*

I was an ambassador at a Zoo back in Oregon when I was 13. Mostly cleaning and helping behind the scenes at shows and handle expo huts (blue tongue skink, Ball Python, Hedgehog, Millipede... ect) I also helped prepare a lot of the meals for many different species. Wish I could work at a zoo for a living, I think they would have to FORCE me into retirement... lolz

Yes Rileysaur! The pandas are spending 5 years in Toronto, then going to Calgary for another 5 years. If it is anything like the pandas in the US, they will stay longer, but details will need to be worked out. My zoo (Memphis) is going to be supplying bamboo for your pandas twice a week!

I will post more pictures of Tink!
