Smile Introducing Button & Myself

Hi! Just joined the forums today. I currently live with my husband of 50 years (next week!) and my little 10# rat terrier named Button, whom we lovingly nicknamed Buttoni. I was a mini-dachshund person before I retired. Raised 6 of them in all. Wonderful dogs those. But switched breeds after my last dachsie passed on. He had the classic back surgery at age 3 and I just couldn't go through that medical ordeal with another dacshund. Sooooooo, I switched over to (as Monty Python said) "Something completely different". Rat terriers. Button is my second rattie. She is 15 years old and really slowing down now. Totally deaf, just this past year. Never thought I'd see her ever slow down, as this breed is known to act like puppies ALL their lives. But she sleeps most of her days now, getting up the energy to do a classic rattie zoomie every other day or so to make us smile. Rat terriers are such goofballs and Button is no exception and I am delighted to have shared my senior years along with her senior years. At least I can empathize with her arthritis aches and pains.

My sister has a Rat Terrier that she does Agility with and she does really well. They are lively little dogs with lots of energy.

Yes, ratties are GREAT agility dogs. Mine is such a goofball she makes us laugh every single day. Smart little dogs. She graduated her first obedience training class and was the only dog to hold her down-stay for 6 full minutes. The teacher recommended her for hospital/nursing home therapy work because she got along with ALL the other dogs in her class and all people. Very sweet dogs. She's 16 soon so no agility work for her. She mostly sleeps her days away now, with the regular zoomie or two throughout the week.
