more than I am busy getting computer literate so I don't even know what a thread or a sticky is! Hope I'm writing in the right place here.....
You did great-totally in the right spot
Does anyone have anything to say about how it changes a dog? I've heard bits about it changing their personality and energy? Any experiences anyone?
You definitely should get him neutered.
There are so many reasons, but it is a personal choice.
Personally I do have a male and the cancer risk is not the same with the necessity to spay a female.
BUT I would not want to be a sexually mature animal who is frustrated-so I have to rank mental wellbeing as one of the considerations. I mean think about it...
In terms of 'keeping them intact' to keep them happy, or this male idea that they will be 'not male anymore'-I think that's projecting how we would feel...I won't go big into our culture as primates who are monogomous and can choose to not have children vs. dogs that we domesticated and owned, but put yourself in his shoes as a non human for sure...
I do mean to sway you-I think they should all get fixed. 6 million getting euthanized a year, I think we take as many out of the gene pool as possible and leave the breeding to the qualified dedicated breeders.
I don't mean that by keeping him intact you intend to breed. But accidents happen ALL THE TIME. Shelters are full of them.
I guess what your also asking is does it change them. Yes-for the better. And if you have a great animal with no bad habits, think about how it will change life *for him* for the better. No more chasing tail he can't have. And no more worries in that regard.
And I want to further say-no it won't be a different animal when it is neutered or spayed. It's the same dog. But any bad behaviors if you have them, like spraying in the house and wandering, will decrease or go away. Cancer risk is nill (Sexual cancers) and I think they are happier
I don't know-my dog is a goober but I wish I was as happy as he is!
Welcome by the way!!
No worries on the name. You can't change it (just the softwae) but you could make a new login and then let us know it's the 'new you' and we'd know
