Hi everyone :)

Hi everyone, I'm Brea and just got my first dog a week ago. He's a 9 week old shorkie (shih-Tzu yorkie mix) named Gianluca. He's a doll, and very spoiled already. I also have three cats, who he gets along with well (one had kittens before I got her and I think she sees him as her kitten- she cleans him and occasionally smacks the crap out of him when he's bad, lol )

I really have no idea what I'm doing, but I signed him up for puppy classes and I'm trying to read up on house training and all that.

Here are a few pics

Welcome! He's very cute!

My best advice for a new owner of a tiny dog is that even though it is small, it is better for it to learn how to do all the things a big dog knows how to do, like not jumping up on people and sitting nicely for treats instead of always begging. If you are going to spoil a dog--and adorable bundles of fluff like him are made to be spoiled--then it's imperative that it has plenty of chances to practice being polite and self-controlled to balance this out. I promise you it makes a huge difference! A well-trained dog of any size is an absolute joy to live with. I am glad you have him signed up for puppy class, that's a really good start.

Good luck!

Hi,
He's such a cutie pie. I imagine this is what our Sebastian will look like once he gets older. Sorry, I don't have any real input at the moment. Where did you find puppy classes at? Does the puppy need to be present?

Welcome!

He is adorable. My puppy is half shih tzu as well and I think you can easily guess the other breed he is haha. As for puppy training I keep a potty pad in his playpen, sometimes he likes to rip it up but I think he is doing excellent when it comes to potty training and I think your pup will do good as well. Just be persistent and very patient, there will be accidents here and there but if you train him right the accidents will slowly perish.

I think it is great that you are going to do puppy classes. Mine is 12 weeks old and he starts class on July 7th. He played with his first puppy the other day and did very well. I hope you develop a nice bond with him and enjoy him while he is young lol
