New here, and I found this place almost completely by accident, LOL.
My name is Danielle, and I'm from the hot southern state of Louisiana. I'm owned by 15 rescue dogs, and 1 super spoiled rotten rescue turtle. Almost all of my guys came from pretty horrendous backgrounds, and most have either underlying medical or behavioral issues that came along with them. But here, they get loads love, plus lots of training to work on their obedience and manners. One of my guys just earned his CGC certification (AKC's Canine Good Citizen) this week, and I have two more taking the test in just a few weeks. I'd like to do a bit of therapy work one day in the future with a couple of my guys.
I'm heavily involved in rescue work, and I spend a lot of time volunteering. I'm a foster home for one rescue, a transporter for another, and an "all-around" volunteer for another -- in which I help with adoption days, and I also do shelter pulls, and some home visits. On top of this, I'm the volunteer photographer for a high-kill animal control shelter. I take the photo's of the adoptable animals, and write up and submit their Petfinder pages when they're ready for adoption. I also do rescue work on the side on my own, taking in dogs and having them spayed/neutered, vaccinated, chipped, and vetted before putting them up for adoption. I currently have one foster dog who's a bit of a wild child. We're working on her behavior issues. So far I've had her spayed, vaccinated, chipped, HW tested and de-wormed. She's up for adoption, but I'm continuing to work on her manners and obedience until her forever home comes along.
Right now, my next future plan is speaking with local officials in our town about working with them with their strays. Right now, strays are held by our local sheriff's office for 3 days before being euthanized. I'd like to change that in the future, by them allowing me to help get some of these animals vetted and put up on a Petfinder page through one of my rescue groups, and maybe attending a few adoption days, in an effort to find them new permanent homes. Hopefully one day we can get that accomplished, so that these guys will be adopted out, as opposed to being killed.
Anyhoo, enough about me. Here's a photo of my dogs...
My group consists of 1 beagle, 1 beagle/bassett mix, 1 beagle/rat terrier mix, 2 shih tzu's, 1 shih tzu mix, 1 chihuahua mix, 1 whippet mix, 1 dalmation/english pointer mix, and 6 dachshunds.
