Thanks
we're actually not to sure if he's all mastiff, he's around 27/28inches tall and 130lbs so he's a bit on the small side if he actually is an english mastiff. His fur is also pretty long and wavyish, particularly the fur on his tail. It actually hangs down and it's so curly it does this spiral type thing.
The vet said he might have some newfoundland in him.

Hi Grapefruit! Welcome to the Dog Forum, and welcome to Max too! The big lug..he's the kind of dog you just want to give a big hug to, slobber and all! Did you get him as a dog, or a puppy? Can you get us some pictures of him standing up? I'd love to see that wavy hair! He sounds like a beauty! I'll bet you sure turn heads when you guys go for a walk!

Yeah, he's a little on the smaller side, especially for a male but it could depend on how old he is too. I've heard they aren't done growing until they're aprx. 2 yrs old. How old is Max now?

Whether he's all English Mastiff or a Mix, he is just an amazing creature. A site to behold. I've done a fair amount of research on EM lately and they do have such a thing as a "fluffy" Mastiff. I read that most good breeders now test for the recessive gene which can cause it and don't breed the dogs who have it. But others have groups that are dedicated to the "fluffies" and say they are just the best! They are beautiful either way.

This link has some interesting reading about the Fluffs
Fluffs

After years of wearing my husband down, he's finally agreed to getting a big dog. I kind of have my heart set on an EM.
Until then, I'll just enjoy Max....Hope you post more pics.

Max is definitely done growing, he turned 5 this January.

We got him as a puppy.

I just went outside to where he was lounging around and tried to take a couple photos of him but whenever he saw the camera he would just start barking at it. This is the one photo that turned out looking pretty cool, I think he looks FIERCE in it. XD Usually he just wants hugs though, he's a great pillow!

Here's a decent one of him standing up

My favorite walking story is that once while walking him a little girl came running around the corner and yelled, "Wolf!"

Mischief, thanks for the info! I just looked on the website and Max looks just like those Fluffy dogs. I guess that is what we'll be calling him from now on when people ask what breed he is. (:

Oh, I love curly frindges! My granddaughter has curly frindges! She would LOVE your dog (she could ride your dog!). She'd cry wolf while running right up to him and giving him a big hug!
