I guess a short intro won't harm, right?
I have kept animals for as long as I can remember - 15 years to be exact.
Included in this is a variety of creatures of different sizes, ranging from Hovawarts to Snails and from Fish to Persian Jirds - and everything in between.
In addition to this, I have been a avid supporter of animal rights, supporting the RSPCA on a number of their activities and trying to help educate the public about such requirements and rights and animal is entitled to...
If anybody does have any questions relating to any animals I have experience with, please let me know and I will try to help!
Anyway - the reason I have decided to join today is that I was looking into getting another guard dog, and was wondering if anybody had any tips?
I would have chosen these necessities:
- Life expectancy of at least 10 years
- Lack of associated hereditary diseases etc
- Suitability as a guard dog
- Medium to large size
*If large has to be docile enough to be willing to be washed
- Good temperament and obedience
- Easily trained
- Doesn't hair (minimal levels obviously acceptable)
- Suitable with children
- Suitable with other dogs
- OK to be left on its own for a few hours
Any ideas guys?
I have been eyeing Newfoundlanders...
But I still need to research more - does anybody have any experience with them?
Cheers guys - and can't wait to chat
