Hey everyone!

So greetings I'm new to the forum; my name is Sam and I am a dog trainer. I've been working with dogs since I was 17 (I am now 23). I am working on becoming a Certified Vet Tech, and my intention is to get my behavioral certification, in addition to either my emergency nurse or my equine nurse certification...I can't decide which, maybe both! I have the most experience in basic (I say household) obedience, and I can train a dog up to the CGC level; I have also been exposed to Shutzen training (not a fan, I think the trainers are too harsh, but I am considering becoming an agitator because I think it would be fun) as well as formal obedience, all the way up to dogs who have their otch.

I have no dogs as of right now; my philosophy is that I work with them, so I don't know if I want to have one with me at home too....I do have a cat, who is pretty much like a dog, and my plan is in the next 8-12 months save up the cash to buy a decent, show worthy Australian Cattle Dog and get into Rally and herding trials to really build up my trainer cred I do also want to adopt from a local private rescue (one I previously worked at, I know JUST the dog I want haha) in the near future as well.

I am a Florida native, currently living in the Tampa area; wearing many hats as I try and get my training business off the ground, work weekends at a local shelter as a vet tech, and earn actual money to pay the bills by working in customer service. If I sound like I'm being really mean I'm sorry! but anyone who works in customer service knows you hate people at least 50% of the time...but you hate them with love. I'm also REALLY sarcastic, but I do use italics.

I am hoping to start classes this fall aiming for my Vet Tech Degree as well!
Cool stuff!

I currently work as a vet assistant/kennel tech.

Welcome!

Have you considered a catahoula leopard dog instead of the cattle dog??? They are SO versatile - protection, hunting, herding, family pet, highly intelligent, love agility training! Catahoula Rescue has a lot on their site....we have two of them, one of them knows 60 words so far...we started "spelling" in our conversations and then had to speak Spanish words as she even caught on to the spelling! And they can climb trees, lol.

My sister has a catahoula mix! She found her at the local animal services shelter, she is SO smart; her owners gave her up because she was digging, I think. Now she lives out in the country kind of, and tries to play with the cows across fence haha. I do want something that would be a little more adaptable to apartment life....basically something compact, and something I can take out to the barn with me (I ride horses) who won't wander off chasing every scent it finds!

Plus I just like the "jerky" dogs....I also like "jerky" horses, and "jerky" men! I have a problem.....

Where are you going to go? SPC is the best! Even the online program is awesome if you live too far away from any of the campuses.
