Hi and welcome! This is the most awesome dog forum, makes the others seem like fluff. Just some thoughts, pay attention to Tess, Holly, Mythbuster, as they are very experienced and knowledgeable. There are also so many other posters that have a wealth of knowledge...
I have two adopted Catahoula Leopard dogs, females. WHOOOEE do we have fun!

Thats awesome! I'm not familiar with the breed. They look hyper! Am I right? lol. Can you compare their personality to another breed? They look like herding dogs. Gorgeous none the less!

Thank you much for introducing yourself!

My first job was at a pet store (I know I know, pet stores smetstore. We didn't sell dogs or cats tho; pocket pets). I did learn a great deal about many things though; toys, foods, grooming). I worked there for 8 years until they stopped caring so much for the pets as they did the money. (Yuck)

I feel as if though, it all has changed since I got my OWN puppy. lol. I have had many dogs. But they are all at my moms house. Afghan/Collie mix, Shepherd mix, toy poodle (RIP), Springer Spaniel (RIP). Of course they are family. But now that I live on my own, and haven't had a dog in 7 years living with me. Its so much different. I looked for thoughts when buying his food, toys, etc etc. He has became my child. lol

Hi, they are Catahoula Leopard dogs and they are much like the Blue Lacy from Texas. They are the State dog of Louisiana and were used to herd wild boar with a team of 3 dogs...into pens. They are as smart as border collies, if not smarter; very protective of family, can be stubborn in training but they are wonderful companions; they have a strong prey drive. They have to have a JOB to do or will ...well...get bored and destructive...our one knows how to unlock the locking garbage can, knows 60 words so far (we used to spell the words, but are now having to speak them in spanish!!!) Park, dinner, bath, walk, etc. A standard joke on the forum is that I see "houla" in every mix! Chloe was found in the AZ desert with a harness on and cacti sticking out of her, she almost died from the infection; Addison...welll...she's a work in progress, feral, mange, malnourished (severe), etc. I think she has a cognitive delay problem...but she catches on eventually. Love them both to pieces, I am their "grandma" and primary caregiver 24 hrs a day. So much fun with them everyday.
