Hello from VA!

Hello everyone! I've lurked for a little while, but finally took the plunge and joined the forum. My husband and I live in northern VA, very close to our nation's capitol. Earlier this year, we decided we were ready to adopt a dog and just love her so much! We named her Penny, and she is 1/2 Great Pyrenees, and the other half English Springer Spaniel and a lot of other breeds. She's tiny for having pyr genes, as she is only 45 pounds! She does have a strong guarding instinct and a bit of a stubborn streak to let us know that she does hold true to her pyr lineage.

Anyway, enough about us, and onto some photos! Sorry if they are huge--I have THE WORST time resizing.

Awww.... so cute!
And Northern VA! My husband and I lived in Woodbridge for a bit right after we were married. There were so many fun dog friendly events in the area. I really miss that!

Welcome to the forum!

I especially love that last pic - your pup looks *so* very, very intent!

Thank you for the welcome and kind comments! kmes, my family lived near Woodbridge when I was very young. What types of dog friendly things did you participate in? Penny was so, so sick when we first adopted her, so we've been paranoid about taking her to dog parks. She has playdates with other dogs that we know are healthy, but we've been thinking of getting out more and doing things with larger groups of people.

NinaHalina--She gets that intent look often! When she wants something, she will stop at nothing to get it!

Looking at these pictures really makes me miss snuggling my sleeping little fuzz ball. She's a great little girl, but puppyhood really flies by quickly!

We belonged to a couple of breed specific meetup groups. There were also quite a few large and small dog groups.

We took our dogs to the Alexandria St. Patrick's Day Parade and events (actually had a section for dogs and their owners to walk in the Parade) as well as another larger Pet expo type event. Honestly Alexandria is the most dog friendly town I've ever been to! I really loved spending the day there. There are some great little cafes with outdoor seating and tons of neat little shops that welcome dogs!
We went to a Halloween dog walk (also had a costume contest, vendors, tons of great freebies, etc.) in Manassas.
There were several great parks with trails and even a beach in the area that we frequented (sadly I can't recall names right now).
The local rescues and shelters had quite a few dog events that were a ton of fun.
Even one of the wineries had a dog friendly event, iirc around the 4th of July.
And of course there is the Fredricksburg Dog fair which should be coming up soon!

Between meetup groups and other events, honestly it seemed like we were doing something dog related most weekends!
