Hello from ND

Hi everyone! Just wanted to introduce myself. My husband recently adopted a yellow lab pup. Muzzy is 3 months old now, he is so fun and SMART!! I have never owned a lab and am very impressed with our Muzzy. We are training him to hunt for shed antlers. He is doing very well, we are just keeping it fun for now so he doesn't lose interest and get bored. He LOVES playing fetch and chewing on his sheds!

Once Muzzy get older I will get my own shed dog and am very interested in the hound group, specifically the beagle. I heard that a member by the name Juliemule is very educated in scent training! I'm hoping she reads this and will PM me And if anyone else could give me some tips and info on beagles that would be great! We live in the country on a farm so he will get lots of exercise and will have a FENCED yard haha!

Looking forward to being apart of this forum!

Yay a yellow lab puppy! I absolutely love labs, our family lab recently passed away but he was an amazing dog. I hope Muzzy brings you many many years of happiness

Btw- is Muzzy named after the language program? I used it when I was younger lol

Welcome to the forum!!

Thank you for the welcome Kat! Muzzy is named after a broadhead used for bow hunting

Welcome from a fellow newbie! Very cute dog, I hope he keeps up the good work with the training. I don't know how long each training session lasts, but I've been told when they are that young, several short sessions is the best way to go. Keeps them focused on each repetition. Worked for us with Maverick as far as basic commands as well as bird scent training.

Do you hunt (in general, not just shed hunting)? There are a ton of hunters where I live (well my hometown), but I don't personally hunt! We stumble upon antlers here and there though. Remy has a particular liking to picking up the mouldy old ones. Muzzy is very cute I like Labs a lot!

Mainly bowhunt whitetail/mule deer, a little pheasant and coyote. Haha good for Remy for picking them up! He looks like a nice dog!

People hunt mule, whitetail, moose, bear (grizzly and black), grouse for meat and some people hunt cougar, bobcat and lynx but these are trophy hunters and don't even use any part of the animal. I'm fine with hunting as long as it is for food.

Remy is a girl, but thanks! She is a good dog (a little ADHD, but it makes my lover her more!) She also dug up a VERY old bear skull last spring (ew)
