Hello! Let me introduce myself.

Hi everyone.

My name is Carl and I had one dog for over 4 years and as of yesterday I have 2. I thought I'd register to ask a few questions about my new boy and to share my story.

But first here's the story of how I found him.

This weekend I was at a friend's place up in the mountains for a 4 wheeler ride. Somewhere we took a wrong turn that lead to a dead-end. It's worth noting that we are at least 40 to 50 kilometers from the nearest civilisation. As were were turning around I saw that big black wolf like dog looking at us, still as a picture.

We tought at first he was an actual wolf so we just stood there ready to mash our throttles to get away at the first sign of danger. But that sign didnt come. I'm a very energy tuned guy and the vibe I was getting from him was that if we didn't help him he'd die right here tonight. The poor thing is in bad shape. We can tell from the way he tried to walk towards the food we offered him.

After eating the food he just let himself sink to the ground barely 5 feet away from us. At that point I turned off the wheeler and got off. He didn't even move as I slowly walked towards him with another bite of food. He took it and let me feel his body for injuries. He had nothing that I could tell. Hips are in good shape and his legs looked strong and painfree.

Then I saw the pads... Never seen anything like it. Some are peeling and some are completely raw. All of them are in bad shape one way or the other.

After a few minutes of talking about what to do with him, my friend said let's try to bring him back to the cabin and see how he is with the other 4 dogs we have there. (my own dog and 3 of my buddies)

My friend put him across his legs and for the whole hour of riding he never moved an inch. When we arrived, the other 4 dogs instantly accepted him as part of the pack and my dog seemed to form a bond immediatly. That night I brought him to my home and here I am this morning.

The 2 dogs slept together like they were brothers. This morning I took care of his pads. Cleaned them, disinfected them, and put some musher's secret on there to try to proetct them a bit. When he got up 15 minutes later I saw his happy go lucky personality for the first time. He looked so happy that his legs were better. I got many kisses and then he started trotting around my lawn happy as could be.

Now here I am telling my story with my new dog sleeping besides me on one side and my other dog on the other.

I'm curious as to what breed you guys think he is. I actually cannot tell at all. He is built kind of like my husky mix body wise but his face if much more wolf-like. I'll post pictures in a few minutes for you guys.

Here are the pictures. The white one is my husky mix and the black one is the one I rescued.

This was the first night. He slept for 2 hours like this.

This is one of his paws, all four are like this. If they are not raw, they are peeling.

Hi Carl,

So glad you referenced this thread in your "New Additions" thread. What a story!

You certainly saved that dog's life and it looks like you'll have a friend for life. You and your friends were the right people to find him and rescue him.

He's handsome now, and he'll be stunning once he's fully recovered from his ordeal. Any idea of how he might have gotten out there?

Any thought of a name yet?

For a name I thought of Nomad. But I haven't decided yet. I'm open to suggestions.

There are 2 reasons I can see for why he was there. First one and the one I'm hoping happened is he got lost and wandered from the nearest village. That's at least 40km from where we were.

The other reason. The most plausible one and the most heartbreaking is that someone abandoned him there. We were in a dead end that no one ever really goes to. And he was just there... waiting for someone to come back for him.

He hasn't left me since we got home. Everywhere I go he follows. He seems loyal to the point he'd actually wait like that.

Anyways I don't really want to think about his story too much. I get either angry or really sad and right now he doesn't need that energy from me. I try to focus on the future. I can't wait to see him run around and play with my husky and take them both for a good walk.
