Hello, I'm New

Hi,
Just joined the forum. I adopted a rescue dog this weekend. Am looking for a place that can give advice on all the issues that come with that. He's an English Bulldog/Boston Terrier mix, 32 lbs. Not sure of his age. The rescue said he was 3 yrs old when I applied for him, but the medical records that came with him say he's only about 1 yr old. He was found wandering the streets. I'm keeping him gated in a separate room when I am not home. I have 2 adult French Bulldogs and 6 cats. He's great with the cats, completely ignores them and so far so good with the 2 Frenchies. I have a behavior issue I'll be posting later in that section.

Welcome!! Congrats on rescuing
While it's true their may be some behavioral issues when adopting-most rescues screen and you usually get a house trained dog with little to no issues So hopefully that's the case-but if not we'd love to help you both

Thanks. The main issue I have is his mouthing. He does it when i go to put his leash on. Just grabs my hand or arm, no teeth, just softly, but I do not want him to continue it. I've been distracting with a toy so far, but am not sure what other methods to try.

Hi and welcome!

personally, if hes not biting too hard, I would continue redirecting to a toy like you have been doing. Som'times it can take a week or two for them to really understand what you're telling them IME.

Thanks. I'll keep up with the toy distraction. I want to let him have time to settle in before I start any real training. I hope to sign up for obedience classes with him in a couple weeks.
