Cool Hello I talk a lot!!

Hi! My name's Nicole and my dad randomly bought a labrador retriever puppy on thursday after saying that his next dog was going to be a rescued senior bloodhound. I'm partial to labs and labrador crosses and mutts in general. Minnie, my last dog was a yellow lab mutt that we got when I was 5 and we had her until she died when I was 19. I still love her and miss her very much She loved 5mile runs, snuggles and music.

The new puppy's name is St. Charles (after a parish in New Orleans where he was born) but we call him Charlie. He's 10 weeks old, knows "sit" and "down" and half of "fetch". His favorite toy is Octobear. My dad wants to breed him (not my idea AT ALL!! I am not taking care of any puppies!!) so if you know of a way I can convince him not to please do. He often gets stupid ideas like this and if he does I am not raising puppies/ begging people to adopt dogs

Charlie just flew in from Louisiana yesterday and he loves snow, being cold, people feet, and falling asleep on your feet whether you are standing up or sitting down. He's also invented some sort of horrible game called "eat the bangs". In this game an unsuspecting person leans over him and says "what a good puppy!" and he jumps up and grabs their bangs/ ponytail. It hurts. Needless to say I'm working on ridding him of this habit.

My family's first dog was Sony, a GSD mix who was unfortunately abused as a puppy we got when I was 3 (probably not the best of ideas). He would cower like you were about to beat him if you tried to pet him, snap at strangers, and eventually attacked two people. He did learn to love me and my family but was terrified of everyone else. Looking back I don't think my family was the best family for him. It breaks my heart when I think about his short sad life and this is one of the main reasons I am a hardcore animal rights supporter and can not find it in myself to like or forgive Michael Vick. It's not a thing, it's a living, breathing, feeling creature. No animal should be forced to suffer at the the hands of those meant to protect him and those who take advantage of him like that, in my opinion belong in a nice warm place that I shall not mention...

Other than that, I just finished college and I have no idea as to what I want to do with my life so don't ask for there is no answer. I also am a bad speller (so I'll apologize now), like run on sentences and can be somewhat chatty and can be somewhat preachy when I feel strongly about something (sorry just who I am I try to be polite about it).

I've loved dogs since I was little. I'm no dog expert and don't claim to be but I love animals more than people sometimes and if I feel I know enough to add my 2 cents I will but I have a feeling I'll be asking more questions than answering them

Okay, I did say I was chatty

Hello! Welcome to the forum. That's awesome that you speak your view on things really, most of the world doesn't know much about animals. As for the breeding thing, this is a pretty good link, might help. Good luck!

Welcome! I'm a noob here too!

Totally passionate about NOT breeding unless you're experienced, however. Unless your puppy is full bred, came with hip/eye/heart/elbow clearances (or unless you plan on following up on them) and you are willing to find the equivalent for a dam, I would not suggest breeding. Labradors are commonly diagnosed with hip dysplasia and are sometimes candidates for canine lymphoma; careful breeding and clearances help reduce the risks of both painful and expensive conditions.

I see no reason to create more puppies, especially if their health may be at risk down the road, when shelters and fosters are full as it is. If you do decide to breed, please do your research, contact experienced breeders, and speak with your vet.

Good luck!

Thank you!
Actually people tell me I'm really quiet then all of a sudden I start talking and won't shut up especially on the subject of animals. My cousins were talking about how good Michael Vick was and I practically threw them out of the window. They were like "well they were just animals..." and that's when I started...
I think that there are way too many unwanted puppies in the world and the last thing my dad needs to do is add more puppies to it (especially since he has no idea what he's doing).
We had a party yesterday and Charlie got to know the other dogs on my mom's side of the family. He tried to nurse off of my older cousin's male dog and bit him in a sensitive spot. He also played eat the bangs with everyone else. And the image you have in your head is probably right it's funny to watch but it hurts.

when we were kids my brother had a rottie... back then we all wore scrunchies... anyway, she would want that scrunchie so bad... and she would get it too... hilarious to watch, but yeah, painful... she always seemed to go for my sister's tho...
