Hello from Greece!

Greetings everyone,
I am Stathis, I am 22 years old and I am from Greece, I am currently in my senior year at Department of Economics in Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. I recently got my dog this August...
Enough about me, this is my Phoebe when she was 6 months old, she's now almost a year old...

A friend found her in a plastic bag in the garbage a few months ago, along with her brothers, but Phoebe was the only one that survived. So I took her in. She is currently 5 months old.
She's a... Well I don't know what she is, she's definitely not a purebreed, but looks like a... No idea (What do you think she looks like?) :P

I've always wanted a dog but my mother was never a big fan... Anyway, I am most likely moving to the states within the year, NY specifically, and I don't know if can really take my dog with me, as she's bonded with my family as well and my family loves her, even my mother can't be separated from her. Anyway I might end up taking her with me in the end, I don't know, I am thinking this through.

There is no way I can live without a dog now, so I was wondering, what is the proper way to get a purebred dog in the states?
Before you say anything, I know there are shelters and stray dogs that need to be rescued. Hey, I got my current dog off the street and I have no problem to do it again. Anyway nothing is set in stone yet, maybe I'll take Phoebe with me, maybe I'll adopt a stray, maybe I'll go to a breeder, maybe a shelter. My question was mainly out of curiosity, what steps should one take if they want a pedigree company dog(Not show quality)?

I always wanted to be owned by a yellow lab. I know here is Greece the right way to do it is to find a proffessional breeder(I even found a really good one that cares about his dog more and not so much about the money), avoid pet shops and BYBs. So, yeah. How do you guys do it there?

Thanks in advance.

She's not a purebred but she's pure adorable! I'm so happy she survived and found a loving home. I couldn't imagine leaving the country and not taking my dog. I wouldn't go if they couldn't go. I think it's become easier to bring animals in with the proper passports and vaccines. It used to be a long time in quarantine. Anyways, we got out lab from a breeder that was registered with the AKC. He was to be a family dog not a working dog or a show dog, but the breeder was more show, so we wouldn't get a working dog temperament. We found the breeder and contacted him, met with him, the sire and dam.

So here we do it the same. Purebred labs are really common in the shelter and rescues due to BYB and puppy mills so it really isn't hard to find one. But there are reputable breeders you can find and work with to buy a puppy.

Welcome to the forum!

Hi welcome to the forum!

You can inquire with your local animal club for reputable breeders in your area.
