I joined a couple of years ago, lurked at times.. but I am now here!
I live in Germany with my parents. We all work for the British Military, hence being here!
We have always had 'breeder' setters, but over the past couple of years due to horrific accidents and illnesses, we have rescued two. I say 'we' in the loose sense.. when 'my' dog is naughty or has eaten something he shouldn't (again!) he is mine.
I will add pictures later as I am currently in work!
Rufus is a 5yo English setter from France. He was used in hunting with his four brothers. As far as we know the owner was too elderly, and couldn't take care of them and sent them to a local rescue. No one wanted them, they ended up on death row and Rufus was rescued by the Phoenix Assoc. I am unsure what happened to the others.
He is the most handsome, adorable, loving dog you will ever meet. But not the brightest! Due to his previous nature, we struggle to let him 'play' off the lead as he won't return. True setter instincts set in and he gets lost in the moment!! His favourite thing is hunting flies in the garden. Least favourite.. when I won't let him sleep on my bed!
Tessi is our wonky girl. She is supposed
to be an Irish setter. She has few feathers, a wonky eye, a funny run and acts like a cat! She was from a rescue centre in Oldenburg, Holstein. My parents drove 500km to pick her up. She adores my dad, but is petrified of men. We have had many trainers out to her, but none with success. We just tell people to settle down, ignore her and she will come over when she is ready! She is far more intelligent than Rufus (think Pinky and the Brain!) and loves nothing more than telling us to hurry up and get a move on.. she wants her walk! She adores back scratches, and hates bath time (my job!)
