Hello from DC!

Hey everyone, happy to be here.

So I'm not really a dog owner/parent, more like a crazy uncle to a 2 1/2 year-old lab-pit mix named Zeus. He's a rescue adopted by my roommates (a couple) a year and a half ago.

I absolutely adore dogs but have never lived with one before, and I've only been in the house for about 6 weeks. Just hoping to find some general information about how to integrate smoothly into this pack family. I imagine it must be stressful for the little guy to have one person disappear and have to get used to a completely new one all up in his space. In fact, he seems pretty stressed and nervous around me, unless I'm feeding him or putting on the leash for a walk.

So I hope I'll be able to find some good stuff here. I really want to have a friendly relationship with this dog (and by extension, my housemates) but I'm not totally sure what I ought to do. Do I just give him some time to get comfortable with my presence? Ignore him until he decides to scope me out? Try and approach him in some non-threatening way? I'd certainly appreciate any and all insight

Thanks!

Hello and welcome!

Personally, I'd go with ignoring him and letting him come to you Heads up, the word pack is not a popular one around here. You can find a link in my signature explaining that the pack theory has been disproved by science.

Using the word Pack refers to a group or family of dogs just like herd refers to a group of cattle. Using the word pack does always refer to training beliefs
