I hate the generalization too!! They think we eat only pasta and pizza all the time!! ...well most of my friends here think that Italy is just that...pizza, pasta and ferrari!...oh and Berlusconi LOL!

OK, note to self. Never ask an Italian from Italy about Pizza.

I envy Europeans sometimes. We Americans are land locked and only have 2 countries to visit on vacation by car. I studied German from 4 years thinking I was going to go after High school, but enlisted in the Marine Corps instead.

Seriously though, I love trying foods from different cultures and know the best stuff isn't here in the states. It is usually Americanized and not truly original.

It's an interesting thing: when I visit Scotland I felt a natural link with people and places. I found scottish people friendly and I also could understand them when they speak english, while in London sometimes it sounded like babylonese I guess it's because you pronounce T and R more like we do.

Well I did night classes for Italian before my first holiday there in 1999, it served me great for ordering things, food, drink ect and for asking directions but we sat at a cafe in Chianchiamo Terme (hope I have spelled this right!) and a couple of elderly local gents started speaking to us, after explaining that I had only taken night classes, and couldn't speak italian fluentley they slowed down but I could still only pick up the odd word! I think Italians and Scots speak very quickly and others find it hard to pick up. LOL
