Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. You can call me Lee (my middle name). I have two dogs.. one of which I adopted from a family member who developed a terrible pet dander allergy, his name is Rufus. Then, there's the old girl.. that we call 'Sassy'. Sassy is a female Yellow Lab and is a great dog. First time to own a Yellow Lab and let me tell ya, these Yellow Labs are GREAT dogs. They're loyal, smart, energetic and great around kids of all ages. The only thing I will say about Yellow Labs, which I didn't find out about until about 4 years after I bought Sassy, is... well, apparently Yellow Labs don't really calm down until they're in their elder years. Sassy is around 7 or 8 now and I must be honest with you, up until last year.. she was still a handful as far as her high energy levels. Other than that, yea, she's a great dog!
Although, I will say.. if I had to choose between a full blooded Yellow Lab and a full AKC full blooded Golden Retriever...?? I would have to go with the Golden Retriever because that's all my mother and father ever had while I was growing up and their just the best dogs you can get 'IMO'.
Now, as far as Rufus goes? I still can't believe that anyone could have the heart to hurt this little guy! I have had him for around 5 years now and I still get absolutely steamed at the thought of someone abusing this little guy! I mean, he's absolutely the sweetest little thing and just amazingly smart and loyal and loving!!! He literally, is basically a miniature black lab.. well, that's exactly what he looks like.. if there were such a thing. Only, he's got a white line down the center of his chest.. brown eyebrows and brown legs. Other than that, he looks just like a young black lab.
Every now and then, and he just had one this morning, around 1:40 (am).. he started the uncontrollable shaking and his entire body got really stiff?? I want to say he's having small to medium sized seizures. That's exactly what it reminds me of. Every time he has one, I gently pick him up and try hard not to cry while holding him.. but after I pick him up in my arms, I gently and slowly rub his sides/back/head/chest areas while I whisper in his ears, with a confident tone, "Your alright buddy.. your just fine.. your going to be okay Rufus.... try and relax... your safe now and have nothing to be scared of and nothing to worry about", that's basically what I repeat until he stops shaking and comes back to reality, so to speak.
But it still angers me that people can be so mean to a helpless little dog.. who just wants someone to play with.. someone to be friends with.
If I would have caught the little punks myself, throwing rocks/kicking this poor little dog..... ehhh I don't like to think what might have happened to those punks. But, its alright because I know God has a special plan for heartless people like those punks.
Anyhow, thanks and hello from Arkansas.
