Greetings from Ruby and Darwin!

Greetings! As a new member I would like to introduce myself and family that consists of my husband, a 5.5 year old shepherd mix rescue (Darwin) and a newly added 9 week old Mini Aussie Shepherd (Ruby). Ruby came to us as a pseudo rescue I guess, friends of ours had an oopsie litter with brother/sister Aussies that had not been spayed/neutered (yes I know, not ideal); mom was about 6 and dad was a year old. My husband and I had been talking about adding a puppy to our family and thought this would be a good time to do so and help rehome one of the pups.

Darwin came into our home in June of 2008 from a rescue group that was fostering him after he was hit by a car and recovering from hip surgery. I am Darwin’s person for the most part, he can be aloof to visitors and leery of men; I suspect something not so nice happened in his past. He does decently well with other dogs if introduced properly and runs with us when we train for races (5K at best so far).

Ruby came to us 2 weeks ago and it has been quite the experience; I grew up with dogs but it’s been a while since I have had a puppy. She and Darwin acclimated very well and are now best buddies, he seems to be helping showing her the ropes. She is doing ok with pottying outside, as long as we get her out enough accidents inside are minimal. She has learned that her crate is her safe spot and is doing pretty well with bedtime, we’ve been getting close to 4-5 hours of sleep on good nights. She had her first round of shots at the vet last week and the vet said she was healthy and happy. All in all it has been a pretty good experience so far.

After the holidays and being up to date on Ruby’s shots, we would like to get both dogs going in obedience courses. Ultimately we want to get Ruby going on Urban Herding/Trieball because that is just cool and we have no sheep or cows haha. I will post a few pics later today. Anyways, I am happy to have found an active all-encompassing dog forum and hope to ask and help answer questions

Happy holidays!

Thanks! I am far from a photographer but I do love to take photos, the dogs make great models.

That is the "give me the treat soon or I'm done" head tilt.

Ruby slept her first full night last night, nearly 7.5 hours!
