Smile Greetings from California!

Hello!

Hope everyone is well!

I've made a couple posts so far in regard to questions I have but have not formally introduced myself here.

I am a rather new dog owner after wishing for one since I was a child twenty years ago. Three years ago, my family adopted a small poodle mix stray (after trying to find his owners, bringing him to shelters to see if anyone is missing him, etc). He was too skinny, dirty, guarded but had the sweetest face. He was starved for love. We cleaned him up, took him to the vet to take care of his ear infections and cut off a too tight cat collar on him. My family was lucky with him being mostly trained (house broken, leash trained, knows basic commands and easy to teach more complex commands). He is a wonderful addition to our family and has since become a 'cuddler' compared to his guarded nature in the beginning.

Last May, my fiance and I adopted a shelter puppy lab/pit/hound mix who is wonderful but did not come with the luxury of being house trained, leash trained, etc. She is the sweetest girl and always offers cuddles, toys and love to us. She is intelligent with commands while in the house (even knows how to close doors for us!) but we're having problems with having her continue to be as attentive in dog park settings. We are also having a hard time leash training her as she pulls in excitement. But! We're getting there.

Everyone on this site so far has been more than helpful and I am glad to be here. My fiance and I are the only ones that have dogs in our general circles (family, friends, etc) so it's great to have a place where I can get positive advice and insight.

Thank you again and have a great day!
