My name is Alex, I'm a new dog owner. We adopted Whiskey from the SPCA about a month ago and are working to adjust him to his new life with us.
We don't know much about him, other than that he's healthy and about 1.5 years old. He seems to be a mix of yellow lab and collie(?) with a bit of husky.
He's from a small town up north so living in a city is a bit much at times. He's also clearly suffered physical abuse, as he cowers whenever we raise our voices or move quickly, though he has no aggression. He's super friendly and playful with other dogs (sometimes too friendly and playful as he doesn't seem to take cues when to leave unenthusiastic dogs alone), but is leash reactive. He loves people (kids too!) but is semi-fearful of strangers on the street. He is also SUPER prey-driven. If a cat or squirrel or duck comes within range, all training goes out the window.
All these things make it pretty difficult to have him offleash which is a shame because he REALLY needs to run and play (like an hour minimum ever day) to get his beans out, but it's hard to find places to let him run where he won't pester other dogs and their owners. Even taking him running with me is tough because of the leash issues.
So I am here now, hopefully I can get pick up some info on training and adjusting him to his new diet (raw), and I look forward to it!
