That small risk is what I fear. I've read about people whose dog ends up having skinnier legs and a more narrow skull because of neutering too early. And this was with a golden retriever, so I didn't want that to happen to my puppy and since there isn't that big of a rush to neuter him I thought I would wait a bit longer. I also read pups that were neutered too early have a higher risk of bone cancer. don't know how accurate this research is. This is the article that made me reconsider waiting until later: http://www.naiaonline.org/uploads/Wh...uterInDogs.pdf
Your decision is ultimately up to your but a few points about that study...I had read it before and looked into it further and found a web site...decoding science i believe it was called...that compared that study by Sanborn to a study by a Dr Peggy Root-Krustitz...or something like that, I may have botched that name...i will look it up in one minute along with the article. Anyway the studies by sanborn and root were both retrospectives and based on peer reviewed articles but sanborn's was not peer reviewed itself. Root's was. Sanborn is also an MS (meaning master of surgery I thnk) where as root is a DVM and a PhD. She has also put out tons more original research.
I will go hunt that science decoded article comparing their two studies...it was a great article. The study I found by root was not very readablenbut she had a great web site.
My point is that for every articlenor study you find that says why not to alter there are 10 more that say why you should.
