That's a tough one! Does she know freeze? If I tell Abel to freeze he stand stalk still no matter what and he gets a question mark tail. Maybe try that while she is playing dead? Frankly I think it makes the trick better because she is so happy to be performing!
How hard is it to reprimand a Gould?! They are sooooo funny when they are naughty! I'm like telling him off amid fits of giggles. And they totally know when you are laughing they don't have to take you seriously.
Abel used to love the vet! But alas, all good things come to an end. He is also randomly afraid of pet stores... Dunno why happened there.
Do your girls do the crazy butt run? When they want to run around in a small space so they have to get speed up quickly so they tuck their butts underneath of them and zoom! It's my favorite!

Oh! We never thought about teaching her freeze as she was pretty much velcro with us outside unless we tell her "go play". She knows "leave it" ...hmmm...going to have to teach her freeze for sure!

Yeah, her back legs are up by her chin when she is full out! Greyhounds are great at the park for her! When she meets a houla mix they kiss, and then head into the bushes as if looking for hogs...I love it. Her recall is excellent, thank goodness! Can't wait to see pictures of him! Abel is a cool name too.
What is strange is that she doesn't like water! Addison does, but not Chloe, weird. She doesn't like to get her feet wet! I don't get that but oh well.

AmandaNola - Nola is such a sweetheart -- I am so fond of her! And Niko too! No other dog on DF will take their place, lol.
I have to get in gear about the modeling career for Nola, the holidays are just really hectic! I have some stuff but realized that you are not Midwest so I am going back and putting in "beach" geographical contacts, lol.

Abel's recall is much better now, it was really unreliable but he always came back just in his own time :/ one time he was out of my sight, I thought I had lost him and panicked. After shouting for him for half an hour I ran to my car two miles back out of the woods to call for help... There satAbel. Patiently waiting, like "hey mom, where have you been?" So relieved!
He use to hate the ocean, still water he was fine. Then I got my kayak and he refuses to be left behind, he swam out to the boat the first time I left him on the beach with a friend. When we got back to shore I was so excited and praisin him so much that every time we saw the ocean for the next week he would run to it jump in, then run back like "did I do good?!"
It's the best when Houla meets Houla! I've only fostered one Houla in my life and it was the hardest thing to let her go. Her and Abel were so in love!
I LOVE dauchshunds! Soo funny! They have the best sense of humor, I love the macho ones too there is a mini boar male in our evening walk that always comes out like he is going to rip our throats out. As soon as I greet him by name he is a puppy, rolls right over an wants to play with Abel.

Oh you are so much fun to post with! That is so houla like not to want to be left behind! And yeah, about panicking bec. we couldn't find Addy at the dog park....the hottest day of the year and she decides to go "feral" on me in a 60 acre dog park....it took a behavior trainer and 15 people in the park and a pound of turkey meat 4.5 hours to get her to the gate!. Even Chloe couldn't herd her there. Addy had been there a dozen times so I just can't figure out what she was thinking of! Chloe will go into the kiddie pool, only if there is no water in it! Addy, clueless as usual (love her for it) jumped into the middle of a lake at the park, began swimming out to the middle and we were stripping clothes to go save her when another dog came upon her and she turned around. OMG Addison, REALLY, lol. My daughter drove back from AZ to here in Illinois with Chloe and an officer pulled her over....Chloe wouldn't let the officer near the car...so he just let her go muttering under his breath about unruly pets! She looks VERY scary when guarding. Way to Go Chloe!

I really shouldn't monopolize you on DF...but this is fun comparing stories!

Haha! I love talking to another catahoula owner, up here in new england most people have never heard of them. I want a bumper sticker that says "Cata-what?!" I get that response so much! Addison sounds like a riot!
Abel isn't so protective of the car like Chloe. He has developed a bit of anxiety in the car over time, as he gets motion sickness (just like his momma). If the window is open for him and we aren't in stop/go traffic he is fine. But the few times we have made long trips he got really turned off to the car. He still jumps right in because it is the only way to go to the woods
I dont' mind being monopolized! haha but this thread has basically turned into a public PM!

HaHa! PM it is then! Addy gets car sick too, but she is starting to outgrow it! Cata-what is the standard response around here too! I took Chloe to the art fair and I had a line of men following her around from booth to booth....they were all ga ga about her! I gave all of them CRI's site and begged them to adopt. One of the booth owners asked if I would leave her with them bec. there were so many people following her. It is difficult to walk down the street with both of them, or even one of them as we keep getting stopped about the cata what! Addy is so stunted that everyone thinks she's Chloe's pup, lol. I am going to make up cards about the Catahoula breed with CRI's website in the future to hand out to people!
I had better go and finish my shopping....forgot a few....So many stories and chuckles...so little time! By the way, I took a lot of zoology/entomology in college but am now a retired social worker...kids, animals ...love em.

I can't wait to see Abel! I visit the Catahoula lovers FB page from time to time too, And CRI's just to check their needs....

By the way, DF is the best forum, so many great people on it with lots of good information! Just don't mention Cesar Milan or Brad Pattison....ever.....

Karen Pryor and KIKKOPUP on utube are followed by a lot of people, lol.
