Question on Seperation Anxiety

Hi there, new to the forum , however looking to stay as I am an avid dog lover.
I have somewhat of a simple question and looking for some advice.

I have started a recent career which involves working away , a few weeks at a time. My dog actually lives with my parents, so he is used to that lifestyle, so there will be no drastic change other then the fact I will be gone for a weeks at a time. My dog is very attached to me, and I do not want him to have a hard time or become depressed while I am gone. Is there anything I can do to reduce any impact of longer term seperation anxiety ( a few weeks ) ? I can have my parents take him for drives, walks , etc and he has a few dog playmates. I have a harder time traveling, thinking on how my four legged friend could be sad at home waiting on me to return.

Any input would be great.:)

I would start getting him used to the idea of being away from you as soon as possible. Is he used to you being gone for a night? How about longer? How does he react?

If he's not used to it, take it small steps at a time. Make the time he spends with them as positive as possible. That way he looks forward to his time with them, even if you're not there. If you're anything like me, this might make you a little jealous when he's so happy to be with them, lol. But it's a great sign if he is secure with you leaving him with them.
Have your parents let you know how he acts when you leave and later in the evening when he's going through his usual routine without you there.

On that note, keep his daily schedule as close as possible to his normal daily schedule. If you take him to any particular place routinely, have them keep to that. As an example, my dog (who is also super attached to me) goes to the dog park around 10-noon every Saturday. Sticking with similar places will help. It's great that he won't have to leave his territory though. That will help.

Hopefully that helps! I'm sure other people here will have some great advice for you.
