Even if he was full grown, and in the right weight range, and conformation, for a pit bull the only way you'd be able to say with certainty it's a pure bred APBT is to know that both parents were pure bred APBT, or to do a DNA test.
Even DNA tests can't distinguish between the APBT and the AmStaff because they're so closely related. Embark groups them both as Staffordshire Terrier and Wisdom Panel groups them as American Staffordshire Terrier.
The only way you can know for sure is if you know both parents are 100% American Pit Bull Terrier. Otherwise I always say mixed. The bully or pitty features usually show up very strongly in close mixes, and can often be difficult to tell what the mix part is, especially if it was a similar looking breed to begin with. Also, just fyi, and I know others do this also, but when I personally say "pit bull", I don't mean APBT. I say this when it *looks* like a bully or pit breed but I don't know with certainty what breed it is. That's why people say "pit bull" isn't a breed, because it's just a term that covers a variety of similar looking breeds or mixes.
Well we know for sure that his mom is a red-nose pitbull but no idea what the breed of the dad is because the mom got pregnant while she was out of the house by a random dog. And we can't tell if maybe he's mixed with boxer or just full red-nose. Posted via Mobile Device
Boxers are not red nose, so this isn't a Boxer x Pit cross. However, it's way too young to tell anything about what the pup might be. Even if Boxer can't be red nose there are tons of other breeds which can so theres lots of possibility for a mixed pup.
At that age there is truly no way of knowing. Even at an adult the only way to know for sure is a DNA test. Your best off assuming that he is a mix breed since there is nor verification.
Are there any intact Pit Bulls that roam the streets within a 1 mile (or so) radius of you? If not, the pups are probably a mix. She would've mated with the first male possible, I'm assuming, so the odds of the pups being purebred are low.
