Sudden life change and dog behavior problems
I have an 8 month old rescue puppy. Part of the reason we were OK with a young puppy is both my parents are home all the time and so she could have lots of supervision and time to run and play. In November my mom was diagnosed with very aggressive breast cancer. Last week she was taken into semi-Emergancy surgery due to complications. She will be in the hospital for an unknown amount of time. My puppy has gone from 2-3 hours in her crate everyday to 8+ hours because my parents canít be home with her and Iím currently the only one working so canít just take off for a week to be with her... I 100% understand that this is where her behavior problems are coming from. I take her out for a half hour play in the morning before work and a half hour+ play in the evening which Iíve always done even before my mom got sick. But itís simply not enough for her. She is becoming more and more destructive and aggressive. I know much of this is coming from puppy adolescence too particularly the fact that her behavior canít be redirected Iíve tried different noises, treats, a LIGHT touch, trying to offer an appropriate toy. I feel like Iíve tried everything.... any advice....
