Socks as puppy surrogates?

We recently fostered, and ultimately adopted, a Husky/Samoyed/Chow mix that is approx 3 years old. When we got her it was obvious that she had been nursing pups. We have no idea the fate of the pups.

She takes my wife's socks (only her socks, never mine). She doesn't chew the socks, quite the opposite, she appears to treat them like puppies. She will usually have some with her when she is lying down during the day, but in the evening she seems to carry them around more. Last night she carried some by us, set them down (didn't drop them) and gave us the 'I need to go out' look. When she came in she went directly to the socks and carried them back to her den.

Are the socks her surrogate pups?

Yes the socks could represent puppies. This is normal and she should grow out of it.
