So Much Poop!

This is kind of an odd question, but Iím hoping someone will have ideas on how to fix this problem. I have recently noticed my Aussie getting in the habit of pooping multiple times a walk. Itís not runny or abnormal in anyway...he just spaces it out. Iíve had to use up to 4 poop bags in one walk once. Any ideas on how to teach him not to do this? Itíd be great if he could just poop and be done ?????

No, you can't really train this. He poops as much as he has the urge to. Some dogs are fast, some are slow. Some poop infrequently and all at once, some spread it out.

The only things (aside from health issues) that affect this are: food quality, food quantity, meal frequency, water intake, and exercise frequency and duration.

My guess is that, when you take your dog for a walk, he has been mostly inactive for several hours before the walk. Regular/frequent exercise usually leads to more complete and regular bowel movements.

Yeah, basically they gotta go when they gotta go and there is not a lot you can do about it. Its possible he may be a bit constipated, and if that's the case you could introduce more fiber into his diet. Other than that, stock up on poop bags.

Funny, my Aussie is the same way! I have to bring a roll of bags on our walks because he poops like 4/5 times. He also spins around as if he's trying to escape it as it's coming out lol. As others said there's nothing you can really do, just a quirk you have to live with and part of the joy of owning dogs, even with their quirks !

My dog is the same way. She can go out into the backyard, poop, then go poop again five minutes later when we're on a walk. The only thing I can think of is to look into their diet. XD

My Aussie does this as well. I find the more exercise she get the less often she poops on our runs or walks. Sometimes I play ball with her before we run so she poops all at once. I think this is an Aussie thing . Also the poop bag roll dispensers that attach to your leash are great, plus bring some Aligator clips to attach the used bags to the leash, less carrying this way.

I always take my dogs into the backyard before we walk. They do their business and then we can just enjoy our walk.
