Hi everyone,
This is the first time I have only owned one dog at a time, always had 2 or 3 but lost two very close together and didn't want to get two puppies at the same time, so I have never had one suffer from separation anxiety as they had each other.
I have a 10 month old Labrador, shes always been very high energy but pretty well behaved, never cried at night, was fine to be left alone but my husband is in the Army and is away now, since he has gone she howls all night, ALL NIGHT if I don't bring her up with me, yes I know I know! I shouldn't of started it but I couldn't just let her keep the neighbours up all night.
She also has now started to bark and howl the moment I leave the house, I am not too sure for how long she does it, sometimes she is barking when I get back and sometimes she isn't.
I take her out for a walk each morning, about 2 miles, then we go out for a proper run each evening and we are out for a good hour.
I have tried leaving her for a few mins and then going back, increasing it etc but its making no difference and the neighbours are going to start complaining about her.
The plan was to get another dog when she was around a year old but now I am torn, I know it could help but I also know they could both feed off each other and then end up being even worse. What do people think?
She is very calm when I am here but she does follow me everywhere, but she has always done that.
Not ever leaving her is not a possibility.
