Puppy biting and won’t let go

I just adopted a 17 week old female Dachshund mix. I’ve never had a puppy before, so I’m not positive what is normal puppy behavior and what isn’t. She grabs my hands and arms and bites down so hard and won’t let go. I tried yelping, redirecting with toys and bones, she will NOT let go. The only thing that I’ve been able to do is pry her mouth open, quickly pick her up, and put her in her crate for a time out. I did this consistently yesterday and when we went down for quiet playtime, she was gently mouthing and licking which earned her lots of praise. So far today, she’s only done it once or twice, and the first time redirection worked. So I’m hoping the time outs are working? I guess I’m just looking for reassurance that this is normal puppy behavior and she’ll grow out of it. It doesn’t seem like aggression at all. No food aggression, she lets me rub her paws, pick her up, put her harness on, etc. I’m just concerned bc she’s a little on the older side for what I’ve been reading. She may have been separated from her litter too early and hasn’t socialized enough to learn bite inhibition? Anything helps!

Unfortunately a lot of places get the puppies very young and really just leave them in pens without any training or socialization (plus it can take weeks for an adoption to be approved here)... I think that if what you're doing works, you should definitely keep doing it (mine never bit down that hard, but I got up and turned away when she did that).

Good luck with her!
