Need help behavior change

Im so worried I signed up to a forum for help for the first time ever.

I got my dog a new harness and it was a little bigger than he needed because I wanted him to be comfy. But it has one of those slip over necks.

At first he seemed uncomfortable with it going on or off. Hed shake a lot to get out of it when I pulled it off. Then he started to yelp. Then each time the yelp got worse more like a cry when pulling it off.

This is only after about 1-2 weeks of use. And it took me some experiment to realize the normal new harness, $40 from Petco is the origin of this problem.

But now he wont just not leave his kennel unless I make him. He wont even take his foot off the dog bed for a treat he loves like a nibble of cheese.

His tail is tucked and stiff as a board.

And he doesnt want to play with anything.

I loved his personality and he was so playful and happy and always wanting tug of war.

I noticed this now for about a day and dont know what to do because I never saw him so hurt before.

A quick update before bed. Maybe it is more than just the collar. I brought him into my room which I never let him into and he sprang back to life and sniffed and explored everything. He then let me know when he was ready to leave my room so I let him out. And be went and got a drink of water. (He didnt seem to be drinking well either). And went back to his bed. Still no playing with toys but he seems legitimately tired.

I'll update you all in the morning if just letting him into my room made that big of difference. I've had him since born for about 5 years now.

I would try a harness that doesnt pull on & off over the neck. My dog doesnt like those either, they are positioned still up around her neck aswell. I use one that clips in with 2 clips. halti. It goes across her chest, directing her legs- its more comfortable. It should be snug enough that it isnt loose but not so tight its digging in. Be careful you dont ger fur stuck in the clips if the fur is longer. Its sometimes easier to go into the petshop with your dog & ask the assistant to fit it & show you how it goes on etc if your dog is ok with that type of thing. There are a few different designs & I found it a bit confusing at 1st.
