My dog is suddenly pooping in the house at night ?
We've had our dog Oreo for just over a month now & he's starting to poop in the house. When we first got him, he marked (peed) in 2 different rooms & pooped in another. This all happened in the first week we brought him home. Suddenly, after weeks of no marking, he's taken to pooping in my kids' room (2 nights in a row). We can't understand why he's doing this. Is he marking? Is he having accidents? Is he being spiteful? Someone is almost always home with him, & when we do go out we either take him with us or we leave him in his crate for no more than 2 hours. Oreo is walked at least 5 times a day (from as early as 5:30 a.m. to as late as 9:30 p.m.) & he gets plenty of love & attention. We even reward him with a treat after he pees/poops outside. Note: He is not a puppy. He's 3 years old & house trained (from what we were told). My questions are: Why is this happening now & what can we do to stop it? Let me add, Oreo sleeps in the bed with my husband & I & has free roam of the house as we keep our room door slightly open. He also has access to his food & water bowl which I'm thinking we should take away after a certain time at night. In addition, if he is marking, I'm wondering if we should teach him to pee/poop in a designated spot rather than in random spots along his walks. The only reason I'm bringing this up is because I saw a video on how to prevent a dog from marking the house, but I'm not exactly sure this is what's going on or if I particularly agree with the way in which it's handled in the video. Suggestions & advice would be greatly appreciated.
