Learning The Dreaded Stairs?

So, Willow's terrified of them. I've tried clicking and treating for every millimeter she makes towards them, I've tried waiting her out and she makes a high speed dash back for our apartment door and sits and whines at the door. I tried making it so she can't make that mad dash back and she found someone elses door to sit out. She's just a scarred little puppy but not much is helping her become less terrified. If I give her a nudge she'll reluctantly clobber over them (and it's a goofy paw-by-paw clobber, I should video tape it before she understands how they work and goes at high speed up and down them because, despite her fear, it's just too adorable for words). When we need to go somewhere she's super-happy to be going but then as we get close to the stairs she starts making scared little back-track before we get to them. If short on time my reaction has been to pick her up and carry her down or up them, and while at 16 1/2 lbs that's doable at 60 lbs it's not going to be.

I have to be going about this the hard way and I know there's a better way out there, so, how do I teach her that they're safe?

keep clicking... does she go up them? just one time, get on your hands and knees, and try to crawl down the stairs... you might see why it is so scary for her... lol, i've tried it myself anyway, i would start by teaching her to go up them... it is much easier for her than going down, and once she gets used to going up them, you can then start to work on her going up and down just the bottom step, as she grows, she'll get better at it...

lol, it took my dog a long time to get used to the stairs, ant that was after taking a few headers all the way down them...
