Izzy, my scared little poodle
In August I rescued a larger size Miniature Poodle. She had been raised from the time she was a puppy in a box stall, never been out of it. She was terrified by everything and everybody. She was about 1 1/2 years old when I got her.
By working with her very slowly, she will now come up to me for pats, wags her tail at me and comes in and out of the house with the other dogs and the other day for the first time, came and took a treat from me.
Instead of cowering in the corner, shaking every time I patted her, she has started to be a lively, friendly, happy pup with me. She still has a long way to go but will walk on leash, not bolting off if I dare to look at her. I have to give a lot of credit to Bonnie, my Golden Aussie Doodle, she has helped Izzy to realize there is nothing to be scared of.
It is so gratifying to see the changes in her. She probably will never be too friendly with strangers but I am just happy that she seems to be finally enjoying life instead of being terrified all the time.
