Home alone

I have a two year old labradoodle who I have had since he was a puppy. We pain stakingly trained him to stay home alone without whining and pooping everywhere when he was a puppy. We transitioned him from a crate to just being locked in the bedroom and he did well. Even when we moved a year ago, he transitioned into the new home well and we had little to no issue with leaving him home. In the last few months he has been chewing and destroying anything he can find when left alone. It started with a sock or something left on the floor. Now that we keep the room very tidy, he has been chewing up pillows and blankets on the bed. He is always left after a walk, with multiple toys and treats, water and food. He is an anxious dog but I can't understand why these habits are starting now at 2 years old and how to make them stop!! Do we have to go back to square one? Any suggestions would be helpful!

He would have been back in the crate at the first sign of damage in my house.
