He does resource guard but he never does this near us...its always away from us, dad was on the chaise, I was on the couch he was on the other side of the room. I make his father work on NILIF with him lol, "remember have him sit first, ok he needs to stay, oh he didn't stay, make him do it again" LOL

!!! what a big puppy! Iam so used to my little guys...

if hes quick to train he will *LOVE* shaping games once he understands what he's supposed to be doing... he'll start making stuff up...which is really funny.

but we play it with a spin... instead of picking a goal and working towards it...I first rewarded her (for about a week straight) for ANYTHING...she could not get it wrong...so her confidence boosts up...so later when she starts to get stuck its no longer a big deal.. the attitude changes from "this is scary and uncomfortable" to "i can do this!" I know it sounds silly me recomending your dog play with a box to curb aggression, but its about changing his outlook on everything. It will also stimulate the heck out of his head and he will be left feeling "worked" and that can help with frustration overall. Especially being a young collie mix, I bet he would react wonderfully to shaping games that allow him to use his noggin....lol here the box game demonstrated...you can use any object. so, this game is genius! i had been trying to free shape stuff w clover, but it is hard for me to do it without a goal in mind. the box eliminates my need for a goal and gives us something to focus on. not to mention all of the benifits of this, confidence building etc and it will be so great to play with the cats also.....thank you crios!!!!!

as simple as this sounds, I have always felt this is the secret to why all my animals get along so well...we do this ALOT and it really teaches them to be tollerant of other animals in their space when they are excited. It also teaches them to focus on ME no matter who/what is around. I often feed entire meals this way...kibble by kibble.

i think it also teaches them to deal with frustration better. some dogs (cats too)have very little patience and are very demanding...by making them wait their turn they know they'll get a treat, but they have to show good manners for it. i always do this with all the dogs that come over to visit, i think it sort of gets them used to me as a leader which makes it easier for everybody since i will let them know how to behave in my house even if their people won't. clover is funny, he will sit back and let me give the cats treat ofter treat but sometimes he'll get a bit pushy when its another dog.

This is where Harvick excels. He waits amazingly and sometimes I forget he is even there laying down or sitting patiently for his treat lol. He is very well trained and I have faith that he can overcome his behavioral issues as long as I focus and give him something to do!
