Dogs Bark Nonstop

Hello, I have two 5 year old labs and when ever someone comes into the house or even when they pull into the driveway they are barking like crazy! I’m not a good dog trainer and some tips on how to quiet them down when someone enters the house would be greatly appreciated! My one dog has the worst ear piercing barks and it’s really annoying when people walk in and try to pet them and they are barking and jumping all over please help

Are they better if you shut them in the room, the visitor is inside & you bring one dog in on a lead first, letting them greet use clicker training with treats, teaching sit if there's jumping, quiet or shh for barking. Once the first dogs done a greet & stopped barking, bring the next dog out & repeat. Once they respond to your instructions on lead- you can go off lead. For more info on clicker training- do dog forum search using the search icon at the top. 😊 Its really simple so good if your new at training. I make the click with my mouth- but you can use a click of fingers or buy a clicker if you like. So tell them theyre good for barking when someone arrives but that its ok- thats enough now once theyre inside.

I have two small dogs that would go insane anytime there was motion outside the front door. I read a solution online and it solved the problem immediately! I read that they bark to warn of danger so they are letting me know something is "wrong". If you yell at them, they just think you are joining in with them to confront the danger. Solution: When they start barking at the front door, I walk over to acknowledge they are barking and I say softly "It's okay". I say it a couple of times, just calmly that "It's okay" and I walk away. THEY STOP. At first I had to do this ALL the time, but now I can just say from a distance and they stop. Also, they are slowly learning what is "okay" i.e. kids riding by on a bicycle - they no longer bark at them. "It's okay"!

You might also consider looking into the root of the behavior behind their barking, it could be because they're afraid or alerting you that someone is approaching or entering the home. Here are tips to help tone it down.
