Yes I hear that Kyras book is not a bad one. Its however one of the few ones I haven't bought...The more I see her stuff the more I just see marketing and $$ tho. Doesn't seem as genunine to me. But she does use All positive techniques.

The best all around book training/philosophy for a beginner is "The Power of Positive Dog Training" by Pat Miller IMO

the following is a list of recommended books from bestfriends.com.
best friends is an animal sanctuary in utah.they are featured on "dogtown" on the national geographic channel. they're the ones who took most of the michael vick dogs and are trying to rehab them...pretty cool stuff, in my opinion. i haven't read any of these books but, they advocate positive training so i'm going on the assumption that they would be good resources

Ian Dunbar is my hero

I can personally vouch for Culture clash(awesome!!) and Don't shoot the dog....DSTD is kinda wordy for beginners I had to put it away and come back to it after i had learned more. It was the first training book I ever bought.
