Dog pees in pet stores

So this is new to me - my 15 month old newf marks everywhere in pet stores. Obviously, I try to stop him before he does, but as soon as I look away, he lifts his leg and pees!

Backstory - someone bought him as a puppy and returned him to the breeder at 6 months because he wasn't housebroken. He stayed at the breeder until we got him 2 months ago. They told me that he never had an accident there, but he was crated 8 hours a day and 8 hours at night, then I'm quite sure that the door to the yard was always open as well. Obviously I have no idea about how his first owners tried to housebreak him, or even if they did... He had a few accidents when we got him so we worked on housebreaking 101 and he stopped after a couple weeks (just diarrhea a couple times... but that's forgivable, lol). He's not neutered.

I praise like crazy when he goes OUTSIDE the stores, try to keep him away from shelves or anything he can pee on inside the stores, say a firm NO when he pees inside... I mostly take him when there are 'dog play' sessions on week ends (he's never once peed in the play area).

Anyway, I've never dealt with this before, but my other two males were neutered by 6 months.

Thoughts?

ok, I'm tryna think what I would do if my dog did that- she likes going in animates but luckily hasnt pissed in there. Um . . before going in- a long walk allowing alot of peeing to empty bladder fully, no big drink right before or in there- the petshops very kindly put a bowl of water out for dogs which is great unless it fuels peeing. My dog wont touch it cz it has other dogs saliva in it. I would take some disinfectant wet wipes & wipe as we go after marking but also I would use scent diversion therapy & spray citronella as soon as he lifts his leg. (Not on the dog, just near & make sure its not near his face/eyes) & I say naughty j.c - thats naughty. (she knows what that word means) then I would go outside to nearest grass spot & say do wee wees, good girl pat praise. Even if she doesnt do wees, straight back in after a few mins & repeat the process each time you see leg lifting. Hopefully your dog will associate marking in there with a yuck smell for dogs & then will get the message outside wees only. Now for a quick fix no training method- I would put a nappy on her & dress her up in clothes for pet shop visits. I know we have a big size difference between our pets tho! so you may have to use an adult diaper that elderly use & some human trou- shirt & tie or a hoody trackpants & some bling round his neck. If you do go this way please take a photo & show us!

Others suggested belly bands, which would work, except that when we take him to the store it's for dog play sessions and he's not allowed to wear anything there.

Well, you can try to train him not to do it, clicker training, treats or whatever, but there is absolutely no guarantee it'll work.

The problem here is you're fighting against a completely natural and physiological problem : he is not neutered, and you take him in a store filled with hundreds of dog's smell, so he does what pretty much every dog in his situation would do : urinary marking.

-You can try to fight this natural behavior and mayyybe you'll succeed.
-you can stop taking him to pet store, problem avoided.
-you can neuter him.
