take it apart - top half, bottom, door. // Use the bottom half as her dining room
- put her meal at the very back, just set it in there & let her walk in to eat. Don't stare at her - put the back against a wall so she can't reach in from "behind", over the crate edge, & eat from OUTSIDE the crate.
That's 2 meals a day, every day - she should walk in easily, after the 1st 2 or 3 meals.
Meantime, between meals, put the crate together leaving the door OFF [reusable cable-ties
make this very easy & quick to do; just push the tab, slip the tie out, lift the roof; to reassemble, set the roof over the base, run the tie in, thread the end into the slot, & pull it up - done!... next?...
], & toss small but high-quality bits of protein
JUST inside the doorsill, on the floor - where she can reach them without stepping inside.
She just sticks her head in, & picks one up, retreats, eats it, go back for another, etc.
2 or 3 pea-sized bits of lean beef, chkn brst, turkey, etc, at a time - SLOWLY move the tidbits farther inside, away from the door, so she must put one foot inside, then both front feet, & so on, till she's going ALL the way in, to the back wall, with the roof on - & making a U-turn to exit.
At that point, she's confidently entering, staying inside for a few moments, & exiting - all on her OWN terms, so far. The door has not yet been latched.
That's the next step.
Depending on how quickly she progresses from outside the door with the roof on
, eating a goody just inside, to going ALL the way in with all 4 feet, & eating tidbits along the back wall, it might be 3 to 5 days B4 she's entirely inside, all 4 feet & her whole body -- done on her own terms, as she gets comfortable.
THEN - i'd start feeding her in the crate, 2 meals a day, with the roof on.
Try locking her OUT of the crate with her food *inside* - she will quickly beg to be allowed to go in for it.
Open the door only after she's become a little frustrated, & whines a little or scratches at the door, or LOOKS AT U
for help... then
open the door, & see how fast she pops inside to eat!
Also, see YouTube & look for "crate games
" as a search term.
Let us know how she gets on, please? - And we need pictures.
Pictures are always good.
