That's so horrible that the rescue would allow that with a dog with his history and then worst of all euthanize him when they basically provoked him into defending himself. With all his medical issues he might not have had a very long life or good quality of life but that's still just awful. With my experience with my last dog who had degenerative myelopathy, if Jakob had just that and no other medical issues it would have been better to euthanize him too soon rather than too late. Gives rescues a bad reputation for allowing the idiot to use a shock collar on him of all dogs and then euthanizing the poor dog imo.

Did you ever get one of the dogs you were considering?

I'm so sorry Jakob's story ended like this. How irresponsible of the rescue. As painful as it may be, it may be the best for Jakob. He is out of pain and at peace.

Thanks everybody. We are still very upset about Jakob. Our family has decided to go ahead and buy a Golden Retriever puppy. We are currently waiting for the breeder's next litter, which should be born around November. They expect their girl will be in heat in September. So, we have put down a deposit for first pick male pup (if breeder chooses not to keep). We chose not to adopt from this rescue. Also, we feel that a Golden Retriever is a better choice for our family.
