Aggressive behavior in Goldendoodle

I have a 10 yr old Golden Retriever. Had her since she was a puppy. About a year and a half ago, we got a new Goldendoodle puppy. For the past year, the two dogs get along great, play together, sleep together. Recently, the doodle (now a little over a year old) will attack the retriever. It seems to happen when I'm giving the doodle attention or the retriever attention. I thought it was an attention issue. But lately, the doodle will attack her with out of the blue. My retriever will be just sleeping, doing nothing, and the doodle will bee-line it to her and attack her. It's not a playing attack, it's a violent attack. She will bite down on the retriever's ear and I have to pull them apart. The retriever usually acts scared. BUT, right after, they will turn around and sleep in the same room and go outside and play together. Any thoughts?

Sometimes this happens when young dogs feel that something is wrong with the older dog. When is the last time he went to the vet?

We're dealing with the same thing here - a couple months back, out of the blue my 2yo female started attacking our 14yo male. He had just been put on pain meds because he was limping a lot, and the meds messed up his liver, so I'm still wondering if she felt it somehow... she's a nervous dog. The first time it happened, my husband had just got home too and she attacked him out of the blue. We never had issue for the 20 months they were together before that.

Last time they ended up face to face (kid forgot to close the gate), nothing happened, but we've been separating them since - in our case, our third dog (90 lbs newf) joins the fight, and it makes it very hard to separate them, so we're just not risking it. They're fine at night as well, but she sleeps on the bed with us and I'm careful when she jumps down in the morning.

Anyway, I'd be curious to hear about more people who have been through this.
