Unhappy Aggressive Behavior in 3 year old Rat Terrier

I got my rat terrier and my chihuahua when they were both just 8 weeks old. They were raised together since 9 weeks old and get along great.

Prior to them being one year old, I took them to dog park every weekend in order to ensure that they get proper socialization around other dogs.

when they were 2 years old, I had relocated from their birth city and adopted 2 cats. There was no fuss from the 2 dogs, they accepted the cats and life was good. However, due to the fact that the closest dog park to the new home is an hour drive, we frequented the dog park significantly less, once a month now.

Lately (within the past year) I have begun to notice that my rat terrier is showing more and more aggressive behavior toward strangers (whether it is children, other dogs, other adults). She was always skittish by nature by I have yet to see her act so aggressive toward other dogs in the dog park. As soon as they come for a sniff she growls and bites the air toward them. Meanwhile my chihuahua is accepting it quite differently, he comingles with other dogs and sniffs them right back.

I am confused as to why my two dogs are reacting so differently to new dogs at the new dog park. I don't know what is causing this and I would really appreciate any feedback.

Wel if you noticed the change due to lack of socialisation, then I would be trying to socialize them more regularly another way seeing as the dog parks that far away. Try a local beach or dog friendly park or pond you can walk them & see other dogs. It sounds like they are little- take them shopping especially the one thats become introverted- if there's shops & cafes that allow you to carry them in there or let them on the ground. I know its more difficult with 2, maybe take turns if you cant carry 2. Cos I've found shops dont mind me carrying her but dont like it if she walking around where she might piss etc. I have 1 & I take her for walks around the local duck pond as its dogs on lead ok zone & she sees & meets people and dogs- & ducks! her fave. See this phase as a chance to practise more training. As for the 2 dogs reacting differently to the change- its just different personalities like people. I would think that 1 dog has adjusted to the more isolated lifestyle & become more anti- social as a result & the other hasnt adjusted to more isolation & is making the absolute most out of the social interaction they get. Just try to aim for a better balance & be safety vigilant so no1 gets hurt. Tell kids not to pat if you think its not safe- ask the owners is your dog ok first before allowing contact. I can tell from 10 feet away wether its an owner & dog my dog is going to be able to approach or not based on their facial expressions & body language. Relaxed smiling owners-eye contact- tail wagging relaxed dogs- all ok. Owners walking stiff & straight not smiling & avoiding eye contact- dogs doing the same- no tail wagging- nup! I move my dog off the path & wait until they've passed. I read its important to let my dog greet others so I do but I am careful with it.
