6mo old rescue potty training troubles...

Hey all. My first post here! So we've had a rescue from Puerto Rico for about 2 months now. We live in Brooklyn and it's much colder than PR so the weather might be an issue, but here's the deal.
She was great in a crate and peed on pads when we got her initially like a champ. We tried to get her to go outside for her necessities but she's a bit fearful and there are tons of loud, distracting and disturbing noises in our part of town. She eventually soiled her crate a couple times and we thought, ok let's put her in the bathroom with pads and a bed. At this point she still.wont go to the bathroom in front of us anymore and only at night.

We had a trainer come last night and said we have to leash her to us and take her out frequently or put her in the crate. She didn't go to the bathroom outside despite 10 outings from noon to 10pm.

We put pads down in the bathroom and closed the door and she went on the pads.

I don't get why she regressed but what can I do to reinforce going outside and not inside? I know I have to remove the pads but I can't have her holding her bladder for more than 12 hours because she doesn't want to go outside yet or in front of us.

Any help is much appreciated!!

Thank you

Poor doggie. That is a heck of a long time for a pup to hold her potty! Must be heartbreaking for you knowing she is holding it. I hope you guys make progress super soon!

Just a quick thought-- since your pup is pee pad trained, could you carry a pee pad outside and set it down outside and ask her to go potty? And then reward the potty with food and praise? Maybe that could be a bridge sortof between inside and out until she feels confident enough to potty outside on her own?
A transition step, if you will.

When you tried her after the trainer came, did you have her in the crate and then run her outside? Or was she on leash near you? If you aren't using the crate, it may help with the potty training. It might make it clearer for her to understand inside vs outside since she is working with a smaller area, or "her own lil special doggie den."

When you take her out to potty do you have her on a leash or just loose in your yard? Have you tried taking her for a little walk first? That may help, too.

I have a "selective" potty pup and it can be difficult at times. I feel your pain and wish you all the best.

Keep us updated on your progress, ok?
