The pup is only 5 months old, so he just does not know yet how to appropriately behave/play with this much smaller senior dog.
I'd keep them separated with baby gates and only allow them together when you can supervise. The senior dog will be more relaxed not having to fear the pup's nearness. It is so very important that they both have good experiences with each other. Especially in those first few weeks.
Make sure the pup is well exercised before they have playtime together. He will be less excited and quite happy being tired out from the exercise. You best have the pup on a loose leash so you can pull him back easily should he become too rambunctious. And as soon as he gets too worked up, then playtime should end. He will learn that only a calm behavior allows him to be together with the senior dog.
It might also be a good idea to actively play with them. You can play fetch, or tug of war with them, that way you control their interactions.
Teach your pup the sit command, and down command, so you can also verbally stop him from becoming a danger to the senior dog.
