His show is basically reality TV. He intentionally creates tense situations with lots of suspense for the ratings. I wish National Geographic would drop the show and the show is like most of the junk on TV nowadays.

I, in a way, can't really blame National Geographic for airing a show like his. A less dramatic show about training dogs wouldn't last long. People have short attention spans and would find other things to watch if there wasn't the amount suspense there is in cesar milan's show. Is Victoria Stilwell still on TV, BTW?

Abusive or not, it's the stupidity that I can't believe. A dog with a history of killing pigs, and you set it free in a pen full of pigs- without even a muzzle or a long line for precaution? What do you expect? What does that teach the dog? Just so stupid.

It's me or the dog isn't on tv anymore, but she's working on a show about police k9s called Guardians of the Night. Idk if it'll be on tv or if it's a web series though.

Ugh, never liked that guy. I do not practice 100% positive training, but this guy's training methods are ridiculous.

I do agree with parts of his training methods, like the importance of a dog having a job, but I do think 90% of the situations you see on his show are vamped up to look as dramatic as possible for the viewers. He definitely purposely raises the tensions to get more viewers. Though admittedly I am not too concerned about the pig, a meat animal raised commercially goes through far worse trauma and the pig did get over it
EDIT:
I also agree that releasing a known pig killer of leash is just plain ludicrous!

@revolutionrocknroll Was "It's me or the dog" a well respected show amongst dog trainers or is it not a good resource to learn from? I've never seen it.

It was okay- obviously very basic because it was made for the general public. Also, the British seasons, there were some outdated ideas and training methods. Some talk of dominance, somewhat aversive methods, and whatnot. The good thing about Victoria is that she's very open minded and learned better methods. The newer American seasons were just dumb because that was when Animal Planet became "surprisingly human" and all of their educational shows turned into stupid reality tv shows. IMOTD turned into more of a marriage counseling thing than a dog training show.

But the first two American seasons were pretty good imo and that's what got me interested in dog training and behavior in the first place! If you want an alternative to the Dog Whisperer, I'd definitely recommend them!

I really hope something comes out of this, something really needs to change.
The thing to that I don't get, I cant think of any other dog training tv show that actually has a warning that says don't try these methods at home... You normally see that kind of warning on tv shows when people are doing something stupid and or dangerous (or cop shows), then again stupid and dangerous is basically what he does.
I remember watching a sort of interview thingy with Victoria Stillwell and someone else I cant remember (it was more of a discussion between them), and Victoria said something along the lines of that trainers (like ceaser) go in and get bitten and in reality its failing the dog, that you got it to the point were it felt like it had to bite. I think this is very true and something he should learn.
