Missing Missy

Growing up I was brought up with Labs and Goldens but when I was sixteen we had another dog. At that time we had a Lab named Rex, who died at age six, and a Malinois named Missy. Missy and I often braved the heat for long walks or bike rides, sometimes we even went hiking. My parents let me chose the second to keep Rex company and I chose a Mal after doing a lot of research. Missy kicked butt in a handful of agity competitions before we moved onto flyball. Missy and I had a strong connection with one another, fare stronger then any other previous dog. She'd sit at the bottom of the driveway while I'd wait for the bus and she'd be waiting when I came home. My parents were even nice enough to bring her to my high school graduation, wearing a makeshift graduation cap. My friends all laughed at Missy but I ignored them and gave her a huge hug Missy and I shared a lot of adventures together in our years together, she out lasted two other dogs after Rex. She'd come to horse shows, family activities and the occasional vacation. Missy passed away in her sleep as she slept by my bed at the good old age of 13.It was only after her passing that I realized I have no pictures of her, which I find odd. Most Pictures from that time are of Rex, Piglet or Emma, it's like my parents didn't want anyone to know about her. I do have a painting of her that I did when she was two months old, so I guess that counts.

I loved reading about your life with Missy. She sounds like an amazing friend. How great that your parents brought her to your graduation, I love that! And what a blessing, too, that she passed peacefully in her sleep next to the person she loved best.
